An online petition to deport Piers Morgan back to the UK for daring to voice an opinion on the US second amendment has been gathering momentum in the USA. Well we have news for you, we don't want him back. As Piers tweeted about the irony of the petition, quoting his first amendment free speech rights, one Brit hit twitter to say the same. Yes America you can keep Piers.
Morgan had appeared to follow Simon Cowell, garnering fans across the USA, until this latest tiff. He has never however been popular in the UK. After a meteoric but suspect rise to fame in the British media he began a TV career. We imagine that someone somewhere in the UK must love Morgan, otherwise his rise to fame is completely baffling.
Hopping it over to the US to appear on shows such as America Has Talent he was fitting in well until he dared to espouse on the USAs love of guns.
There are rumours that Piers is pro actively following the petition, he claims to ensuree that the President gives the whole gun control issue attention. We have news for you Piers, he will do that with or without you. All the petition will do is allow the White House to consider waving goodbye to you.
Whether President Obama will be able to change much as far as the powerful US gun lobby goes is doubtful though. He may be the country's figurehead but how much clout he has is debatable. With so many other politicians and money grabbers wielding power Obama may find his voice is like one screaming in a wilderness, that is it will remain unheard.
If the petition reaches 25,000 it will have to be addressed by the White House. Much more generous than petitions to the British government which require 100,000 signatures, yet we are a much smaller country. Yesterday, Sunday December 23, 2012, it had 23,983 signatures.
In a recent verbal clash with a gun supporter Morgan called the man stupid. It could be that as usual Piers was simply trying to be controversial, aiming for publicity, but for once we agree with him, although we may disagree with his methods. There is so much wrong with the idea that supplying armed guards to US schools will prevent another Aurora, Wisconcin, Columbine or Sandy Hook massacre without resorting to name calling.
It seems that some can dish it out though but not take it. For now it may be a small number of Americans wanting to deport Piers but we would rather America kept him. He is when all is said and done a rather obnoxious man.
