Revelations that the CIA was involved in the Iranian coup of 1953, along with the good old UK of course, should be a lesson to us all. Our politicians have a historical record of lies and manipulation of civil wars.
It of course raises questions about western involvement in the fall of Gaddafi, the Arab Spring, the current Syrian crisis and many other events. The CIA's admission of involvement in the Iran coup is telling. Why the revelations now? Are leaks by whistle-blowers catching up on corrupt government agencies around the world or was the revelation time orientated? Our governments declassify documents after a period of time but some stay hidden from the eyes of the general public forever.
The report at the Guardian paints a murky sleazy picture of US and UK politics with the possession of oil at the centre of the coup. Lives turned upside down for western ends. Perhaps people in the middle east have some satisfaction knowing that western intervention caused a huge mess which has spectacularly backfired on the west.
Last week there were historical reports about Cuba, the CIA and JFK. Apparently conspiracy theorists talk a lot of sense. Revelations showed that in 1962 the CIA wanted to launch "terrorist" attacks on mainland America and blame Cuban revolutionaries. Wikipedia reports:
Operation Northwoods was a series of false flag proposals that originated within the United States government in 1962, but were rejected by the Kennedy administration. The proposals called for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), or other operatives, to commit perceived acts of terrorism in U.S. cities and elsewhere. These acts of terrorism were to be blamed on Cuba in order to create public support for a war against that nation, which had recently become communist under Fidel Castro. One part of Operation Northwoods was to "develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington".
US President John F Kennedy would not agree to the plans and conspiracy theorists believe that led to his assassination.
Area 51, a region of the US used for secret tests, was denied for years but last week the American authorities came clean. Yes Area 51 exists. The NSA, National Surveillance Agency was created in the 1930's but the US authorities denied its existence and jokingly called it the "No Such Agency" for years. We now know that it exists, is huge and has grown into a powerful organisation.
It did nothing to prevent 9/11 and in light of other revelations questions will be raised once more about who perpetrated that attack.
Below is part of the Guardian report regarding Iran:
The CIA has publicly admitted for the first time that it was behind the notorious 1953 coup against Iran's democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, in documents that also show how the British government tried to block the release of information about its own involvement in his overthrow.
The US and UK authorities have blood on their hands. They fear embarrassment but should be ashamed at their actions around the world. As you sow you tend to reap and this screwed up world comes courtesy of people who should know better. Do I trust politicians and the authorities? Not anymore.
