Sunday night in California the 86th Academy awards get underway with all the usual glitz and glam. Indulgent gift bags will go to some of the celebrities attending even though none will actually need a helping hand in the luxury stakes.
Held in sunny Los Angeles, this year there could be one huge problem -- the sun may fail to shine and it could, heaven forbid, rain!
Southern Califgornia has been praying for rain for weeks as drought conditions persisted but as with all things it is all about timing. Remember the Queen's Jubilee in England in the Summer of 2012 when rain and low temperatures persisted? A depressed jet stream was held responsible and that same weather system has refused to play ball once again in early 2014.
(CNN) -- "Severe rain and thunderstorms pounded the Los Angeles suburbs again Saturday, causing more mudslides in Glendora and other towns. Mandatory evacuation orders for Glendora, Azusa, and Monrovia remained in effect, CNN affiliate KCAL reported. So far, no deaths have been reported."
From one extreme to the other.
According to E Online the Academy Awards red carpet begins around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and there will still be about a 20 percent chance of rain, with temps raising a bit to 62 degrees. How will the hardly dressed female stars cope?
If there are any Brits among the nominess they will accustomed to rain and unpredictable weather. Even Amercian starlets from other parts of the USA will have become used to cold temps and terrible weather in 2014. It may only be early March but extreme weather is plaguing many countries.
If the Oscars become a damp squib so what? Consider the people of the State first. Think about those directly affectd by heavy rain including mudslides. Think about all of the people who so desperately wanted rain to avoid a damaging drought.
Californians' prayers for rain have been answered. The timing and amount of rain is a pain but hey that's life. No doubt the Osacrs can cope.
