IT

Picture
Paul Newman had IT
There are fashion and style icons who just have that certain extra something, that IT.  These people could look stylish in a bin bag. For most of us it is not that easy. These days though it has never been so easy to develop your own individual style. Fashion is less restrictive and almost anything goes. Finding what works for you may take some time, and some long hard looks in the mirror, but it is possible.

Style is hard to define. If you look it up you may find style described as:
  • How something is done or how it happens.
  • A type of item, such as a style of coat.
  • To plan
  • To design
  • Style will often be used to describe a person's outer appearance or fashion trend.
How ever much you primp and preen yourself though you will find that you either have IT or you don't.

What is IT?

IT is very hard to define.

We all know some people who look good in anything. These people can mismatch clothing, leave their hair unkempt, not wear make-up and yet still look fabulous. On the other hand we all know some people who can wear the latest fashion, dress up to the nines, be styled to perfection and not pull it off. They just do not have that extra something, that IT.

What you can do.

All of this does not mean that you have to give up the ghost. It simply means that some people have to work at looking good.

Try to:
  • Make sure that your clothes fit you properly.
  • Avoid the latest fashions unless they suit you.
  • Not worry about other people's opinions. If you feel happy and confident in what you wear you should look good.
  • Work out what your own personal style is all about.
  • Dress appropriately. If you are a little older you do not have to dress like a great granny but should avoid dressing like a teenage daughter would.
  • Feel confident.
That magic something, that is IT, is hard to define or achieve.  In one of my previous jobs a colleague and I had a session assessing those who came into the workplace. We wanted to see if we agreed on who had IT. We did. One woman came in wearing a huge pair of trainers, a long flowered dress and a denim jacket. She looked wonderful and IT oozed out of every pore.

Overall then choose your style well and be confident in what you have chosen. Hold your head up high, smell the roses and have fun. People who have IT seldom take life or themselves to seriously. Smile, be happy and let your personality complete the picture

Tattoos, know what you are getting

Picture
Barbara McPherson
Now that spring is spreading across the northern hemisphere, coats are shed and summer clothes are dug out of the back of the closet. Another spring and summer sight is the evidence of tattoos. Some days it seems as if everyone has one. Thinking about getting one too? You don’t have to commit to a permanent design on your skin. ....more

Knowing what is acceptable work-place clothing

Picture
Health and Safety considerations

If you are a woman working in a factory with heavy, dangerous machinery it will hardly be appropriate for you to wear a long floaty dress with draping sleeves. Likewise a man working in the same environment will need to wear sensible clothing that does not have loose, flowing sleeves for example. ....... More Here
