X Factor
X Factor was Simon Cowell's "baby". He formed the idea after being involved in shows such as Pop Idol in the UK. X Factor was created to enable a wider range of performers to compete. It was and still is in essence a singing contest but the judges are looking for an act which has that certain extra special quality, The X Factor. For 2012 the judges have slightly changed once more. Kelly Rowland has been replaced by Nicole Scherzinger.

Gary Barlow
Boyband member Gary Barlow has become the Simon Cowell of the mentors.
In 2011 he was given the boys aged under 25 to mentor and it seems to be a fairly strong category. In 2009 young Joe McElderry won this category for mentor Cheryl Cole and last year it was Matt Cardle who snatched the X Factor title but neither have had the best first years in the pop business. Tulisa
N Dubz Tulisa is the mentor for the groups. This is always an odd category. There are many talented bands so perhaps most just feel it would not be their thing to compete for X Factor. In 2011, in common with the last few years a handful of the under 25 rejects were put together to form two groups. This does not sit well when the panel have rejected actual bands. In what was a first for the show Tulisa rejected two bands but asked one member from one of the bands to join three boys from the other. They are to keep the name The Risk. Seems more to me like X Factor publicity games.
